Balanced Vol.8

Balanced Vol.8 is B-tree gallery's annual group exhibition, now in its eighth edition. The title "Balanced" refers both to the gallery's name (B-tree) and to the pursuit of balanced growth among artists, collectors and galleries. Since 2019, the series has introduced diverse genres of contemporary art. This year, balance is expanded beyond formal harmony into the states generated between materials and their conditions of time, temperature and light. Three artists work with three different materials—photography, glass and lacquer—each tensing, responding and finding their own ground. Kim Sookang's photographs slow down everyday objects through repeated shooting and printing; Yang Yoowan blows molten glass at 1250°C into forms that hold light and shadow; Hangyeol layers organic lacquer on solid wood until the surface becomes a structure of accumulated time. The exhibition also debuts a first-ever collaboration between Yang Yoowan and Hangyeol—glass and lacquer converging on a single work as a symbol of the show's central idea.
