A founding master of Dansaekhwa (Korean monochrome painting) and one of Korea's most internationally recognized contemporary artists. Known for his signature Ecriture (描法, myobeop) series — meditative, repetitive pencil lines on monochromatic hanji-covered canvases — developed since the 1960s. Represented by Park Ryu Sook Gallery since the early 1980s.
